Frequently asked questions

If you have any questions that are not listed below please call or email us and we will be happy to help you.

Can I visit MDA Precision to see a machine?

Yes, you are always welcome to visit us. Our shop has almost every model on the floor and we will be happy to discuss your application and answer any questions you may have. We ask that you make an appointment so we can make sure someone is available to help you whether you are looking for a manual machine or a complete 5-axis CNC Mill.

Is there a servo motor version available?

A servo motor version is available for all our machines. We strongly encourage the servo option for most applications. Feel free to contact us for any questions regarding servo motor applications.

What control software do we use?

MDA Precision uses A PC based control software MotusCNC. Our full CNC mill lineup is compatible with MotusCNC.  Our staff is fully trained and familiar with MotusCNC. If you have any questions about the software, Please contact us at info@mdaprecision or visit www.motuscnc.com

Where are MDA Precision’s machine tools made?

All of our machining systems are designed and built in Germany and the USA. The base machine is made in Germany by WABECO. We configure the systems with our own custom control system, designed and built by MDA Precision here in California, USA.

Is any additional assembly or setup required when I receive my machine?

We ship our machines in a turnkey state. The controller and all cables are plugged in ready to go. The only assembly required is setting up the computer/controller on to the mounting arm. This takes 5 minutes. We send along simple set up instructions to get you machining as quickly as possible.

Positioning Accuracy and Repeatability?

Many variables come into play when calculating positioning accuracy on a Benchtop Mill. Each of our machining systems is checked for positioning accuracy and repeatability before being sent to a customer. We make 100% sure that every system is within specifications. Accuracy depends slightly on which model you purchase. Positioning accuracy on our F1210 Mill models is +/- .0004” (.01mm) and on our F1410LF models (which have linear guides) is +/- .0002” (.005mm).
Note not to confuse this with actual machining tolerances. With CNC machining a lot comes into play once you add spindle tolerances, machining strategies, cutter deflection, cutter quality and so on.

Depending on your cnc machining experience, you can expect machining accuracy to be .001” (.025mm) per foot. A skilled operator can achieve better results, where as someone just starting out might not achieve these results.

Is financing available?

We do not offer any financing directly, but we are happy to work with any capital finance company that you find. We also have a few recommendations. Please contact us for more info.

Can I see a machine locally?

There is a very good chance! We have machines in most states and all over the world. Please let us know what area you are in and what mill or lathe you are interested in. We will do our best to connect you with a customer that will be happy to show you a system. At the very least, you will be able to speak with customers over the phone.

Are service technicians available for local installation or service?

At this point, we do not have service technicians for local service. We provide instructions for installation, set up, basic operations and part replacement when needed. Our machines are designed for quick set up and are user friendly. To this point we have never had an issue that could not be solved via email, phone or remote access.

Are replacement parts available?

We stock all important mill, lathe and controller replacement parts. Some specialty items may need to be ordered from the German factory. Our machines are extremely reliable when properly maintained.

Do you have dealers in other countries?

Yes, we have dealers of our 5-axis systems in Europe, China, India and Israel. If you are interested in our 5-axis milling machines and you live in one of these areas, please let us know and we will send you the appropriate dealer contact info.

How big are MDA Precision’s machines?

Just because a machine is considered to be “Benchtop, Desktop or Small” that really does not give you a good idea of how big the actual machine is. To find the dimensions of the system you are interested in, please click on the “Specifications” tab that is on the product page you are viewing. Please remember that these dimensions are without the safety enclosure. To find these dimensions please on the following links: Mill Enclosures Lathe Enclosures
